| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Steven Smith, secretary of the Klein Independent |

| 6 | 7 | | School District Board of Trustees, concluded his term in June 2017, |

| 7 | 8 | | following six years of exemplary service; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Since winning election to the board in November |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | 2011, Mr. Smith has collaborated with his fellow trustees to |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | benefit district schools; and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, This notable Texan has also given back to his |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | community by mentoring Klein ISD students, teaching English as a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | second language classes, and providing tax preparation services for |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | low-income individuals and senior citizens; strong in his faith, he |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | is an active member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | he has served on the church's finance and Knights of Columbus |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | councils; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, A former officer in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Smith enjoyed |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | successful careers in the energy and banking sectors; he holds a |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Kansas and a master's degree in business administration from the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | University of Colorado; moreover, he received a Master Trustee |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | certification from the Leadership Texas Association of School |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Boards in 2013; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he has enjoyed the love and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | support of his wife, Debbie, and their two children; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A dedicated advocate for area students and their |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | families, Steven Smith has furthered the mission of Klein ISD, and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | he may take pride in the many meaningful contributions he made |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | during his tenure on the board; now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 32 | 33 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Steven Smith for his |

| 33 | 34 | | service on the Klein Independent School District Board of Trustees |
