45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Oliver Saddle Shop in Amarillo is marking its 100th
67 anniversary with a celebration at the Will Rogers Range Riders
78 Outdoor Arena on July 22, 2017; and
89 WHEREAS, Thought to be the oldest family-owned saddle-making
910 shop in the Lone Star State, this enterprise was established by
1011 C. W. Oliver in Vernon in 1917; he later taught the skills of the
1112 trade to his sons Bill and Jack, and Bill Oliver relocated the
1213 business to Amarillo in 1960; today, the shop is owned and operated
1314 by Bill's son Richard and grandsons Bryan and Zeb, and they are
1415 assisted by an expert staff in continuing the family's proud
1516 tradition of crafting custom handmade saddles; and
1617 WHEREAS, The centennial celebration will feature an open
1718 ranch rodeo with up to 60 three-person teams, as well as bronc
1819 rides, goat roping, and a barbecue lunch; proceeds from the event
1920 will benefit the Working Ranch Cowboys Foundation; and
2021 WHEREAS, Locally owned and operated businesses play a vital
2122 role in the prosperity of the Lone Star State, and enterprises such
2223 as Oliver Saddle Shop that build a record of dependability and
2324 longevity enjoy a special degree of esteem in their communities;
2425 now, therefore, be it
2526 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2627 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 100th
2728 anniversary of Oliver Saddle Shop and extend to its owners and staff
2829 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
2930 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3031 prepared for the shop as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3132 House of Representatives.
