| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The life of a compassionate and courageous woman |

| 6 | 7 | | drew to a close with the passing of Pamela Kaye Washington of Austin |

| 7 | 8 | | on June 26, 2017, at the age of 60; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born on December 4, 1956, the former Pamela Baber |

| 9 | 10 | | was the daughter of Lucious Baber and Esther Grey; as a child, she |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | witnessed her mother's struggles with heart disease, and she |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | subsequently fought her own battle with cardiovascular problems; |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | after learning of her family's genetic predisposition to such |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | illnesses, she became actively involved with the American Heart |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Association; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A tireless advocate for public policies that promote |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | good nutrition and cardiovascular health, Mrs. Washington lobbied |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | on behalf of the AHA in the nation's capital, worked to build |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | support for constructive proposals in the Texas Legislature, and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | chaired the AHA's Austin Grassroots Action Team; in addition, she |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | served as a national spokesperson for Go Red for Women, and she |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | shared her personal story of heart disease and AHA activism as a |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | member of the campaign's 2015-2016 class of "Real Women"; |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | passionately committed to empowering individuals, she fostered |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | awareness of healthy lifestyles and encouraged people to take a |

| 25 | 26 | | more proactive role in protecting their health; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Throughout her life, this dynamic Texan sought out |

| 27 | 28 | | ways to help others in her community; she volunteered for more than |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | 14 years with the Boy Scouts of America, vigorously promoted |

| 29 | 30 | | engagement in the electoral process, and held the office of deputy |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | registrar for Travis County for 6 years; she also served the State |

| 31 | 32 | | of Texas with great dedication, working for two decades as an |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | enforcement officer with the Office of the Texas Comptroller of |

| 33 | 34 | | Public Accounts; following her retirement from that job, she |

| 34 | 35 | | enjoyed success as an entrepreneur, running her own tax consulting |

| 35 | 36 | | firm, Washington Business Ventures; and |

| 36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to her family, Mrs. Washington was |

| 37 | 38 | | the caring mother of three children, Ayshia, Jerel, and Terence, |

| 38 | 39 | | who preceded his mother in death, as well as a doting grandmother; |

| 39 | 40 | | her life was further enriched by the support and affection of her |

| 40 | 41 | | husband, Larry, and by many friends who loved and cherished her; and |

| 41 | 42 | | WHEREAS, An outspoken believer in the importance of not only |

| 42 | 43 | | surviving but thriving, Pamela Washington modeled that belief |

| 43 | 44 | | through her generous efforts to make the world around her a better |
|---|
| 44 | 45 | | place, and she will forever be remembered with admiration by those |

| 45 | 46 | | she leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
