| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |

| 6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Julie Gomoll, who died July 22, 2017; |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Julie Gomoll was an exemplary citizen who was noted |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | for her generous spirit and her exceptional achievements; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Respected and admired for her entrepreneurial |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | spirit, she enjoyed a successful career in marketing and Internet |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | development; in 1987, she founded Go Media, which was the first |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | company in Austin to produce print-ready output from a Mac |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | computer and which created the first website for Whole Foods |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Market; later, as Excite, the company pioneered the first |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | stand-alone, web-based instant messaging program; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, She cofounded Austin Free-Net in 1995; this |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | nonprofit organization wired local libraries with digital |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | network connections, created learning programs for underserved |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | areas, and became an international model for community |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | computing; she later became an expert at providing strategies and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | consulting services to such companies as Berkeley Bionics, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Dole, and Continuum Analytics; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, She expanded her horizons in 2013 when she earned |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | her chef's toque from the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Arts and completed an externship in Ecuador; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A woman of courage, intelligence, and compassion, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | she gave unselfishly to others, and her warmth and adventurous |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | spirit will not be forgotten by her family and many friends; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, She was beloved by many, and she leaves behind |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | memories that will be treasured forever by all who were |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences |

| 35 | 35 | | to the bereaved family of Julie Gomoll; and, be it further |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 37 | 37 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |

| 38 | 38 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |

| 39 | 39 | | memory of Julie Gomoll. |
