|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, One of the most comprehensive literary and academic |

| 7 | 7 | | competitions in the nation, the University Interscholastic |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | League Academic State Meet includes 29 high school events that |

| 9 | 9 | | complement the curriculum and allow students to demonstrate their |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | knowledge and ability in a range of demanding disciplines; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, With exceptional performances in a number of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | categories, the Eagles captured their first 5A state crown in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | decisive fashion, eclipsing their closest opponents by 36 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | points; and |

| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The members of this outstanding group include |

| 16 | 16 | | Evan Bewersdorf, who won individual state championships in |

| 17 | 17 | | Lincoln-Douglas debate and informative speaking, as well as |

| 18 | 18 | | Samantha Rodden, Ronak Desai, Ashlyn Ellgass, Anthony Wyatt, |

| 19 | 19 | | Jonas Thrasher-Evers, Robert McWhorter, Skylore Evans, Kelsi |

| 20 | 20 | | Jones, Tyler Russell, and Adrienne Parks; the team benefited from |

| 21 | 21 | | the able guidance of coaches Rory McKenzie, J.P. Fugler, Amanda |

| 22 | 22 | | English, and Neda Morrow; and |

| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The skill, hard work, and competitive spirit |

| 24 | 24 | | demonstrated by these students reflect Lindale High's ongoing |

| 25 | 25 | | commitment to academic excellence, and they may take justifiable |

| 26 | 26 | | pride in their notable accomplishment; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |

| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Lindale |

| 29 | 29 | | High School academic team on winning the 5A title at the 2017 |

| 30 | 30 | | University Interscholastic League Academic State Meet and extend |
