11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 121
22 WHEREAS, Dr. Mark Neeley is retiring as pastor of First
33 Baptist Church of Mineola on August 31, 2017, following 27 years
44 of committed service to that congregation; and
55 WHEREAS, A graduate of Baylor University, Mark Neeley
66 earned a master of divinity degree and a doctor of ministry
77 degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and he
88 later completed a sabbatical study of the Old Testament at Regent
99 College in Vancouver; and
1010 WHEREAS, Beginning his work as a summer youth minister at
1111 First Baptist Church of Hitchcock, Dr. Neeley went on to become
1212 the church's associate pastor in 1977 and its pastor three years
1313 later; in 1990, he was called to lead First Baptist Church of
1414 Mineola, where he has helped create a strong sense of unity and
1515 fellowship among members of the congregation; moreover, he has
1616 overseen a number of renovations and additions to the church
1717 facility during his nearly three decades at the pulpit; and
1818 WHEREAS, This esteemed clergyman has distinguished himself
1919 as a moderator for the Smith Baptist Association and as a member
2020 of the Baptist General Convention of Texas Executive Board and
2121 the Mineola Ministerial Alliance; he has also served on the
2222 Hitchcock and Mineola Independent School District Long Range
2323 Planning Committees; and
2424 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Neeley is blessed with
2525 the love and encouragement of his wife, Peggy, and he takes
2626 immense pride in their two daughters, Sarah and Sally; and
2727 WHEREAS, Mark Neeley has wholeheartedly devoted his
2828 talents and energies to advancing the mission of First Baptist
2929 Church of Mineola, and his insight and leadership have touched
3030 the lives of countless people; now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
3232 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the
3333 Reverend Dr. Mark Neeley on his retirement as pastor of First
3434 Baptist Church of Mineola and extend to him sincere best wishes
3535 for the future; and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3737 Dr. Neeley as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
