| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mark Neeley is retiring as pastor of First |

| 3 | 3 | | Baptist Church of Mineola on August 31, 2017, following 27 years |

| 4 | 4 | | of committed service to that congregation; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of Baylor University, Mark Neeley |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | earned a master of divinity degree and a doctor of ministry |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and he |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | later completed a sabbatical study of the Old Testament at Regent |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | College in Vancouver; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Beginning his work as a summer youth minister at |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | First Baptist Church of Hitchcock, Dr. Neeley went on to become |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the church's associate pastor in 1977 and its pastor three years |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | later; in 1990, he was called to lead First Baptist Church of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Mineola, where he has helped create a strong sense of unity and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | fellowship among members of the congregation; moreover, he has |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | overseen a number of renovations and additions to the church |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | facility during his nearly three decades at the pulpit; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed clergyman has distinguished himself |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | as a moderator for the Smith Baptist Association and as a member |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of the Baptist General Convention of Texas Executive Board and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the Mineola Ministerial Alliance; he has also served on the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Hitchcock and Mineola Independent School District Long Range |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Planning Committees; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Neeley is blessed with |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the love and encouragement of his wife, Peggy, and he takes |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | immense pride in their two daughters, Sarah and Sally; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mark Neeley has wholeheartedly devoted his |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | talents and energies to advancing the mission of First Baptist |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Church of Mineola, and his insight and leadership have touched |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the lives of countless people; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Reverend Dr. Mark Neeley on his retirement as pastor of First |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Baptist Church of Mineola and extend to him sincere best wishes |

| 35 | 35 | | for the future; and, be it further |
