| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Steve Packer retired as pastor of First |

| 3 | 3 | | Baptist Church of Pittsburg on April 16, 2017, following 22 years |

| 4 | 4 | | of committed service to that congregation; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Brother Packer assumed the pulpit at First |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Baptist Church of Pittsburg in 1995 and went on to guide the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | church through a number of transformations, including the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | addition of more than 10 acres of property and its Lighthouse |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | building, Family Life Center, and Life Solutions Counseling |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Center; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Before joining the church, Brother Packer spent |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | nearly a quarter century pastoring in Dallas, Pasadena, and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | McGregor, and he also worked for the Dallas Baptist Association |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | as the administrator of its Mount Lebanon Baptist Encampment; he |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | has given of his time and talents to the Executive Board of the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Harmony Pittsburg |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Baptist Association as well as the Rotary Club; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Blessed in all his endeavors with the love and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | encouragement of his wife, Donna, Brother Packer takes immense |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | pride in their three children, Janet, David, and Daniel, and in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | their nine grandchildren; an alumnus of Howard Payne University, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | he holds a doctorate from Southwestern Baptist Theological |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Seminary; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, This inspiring clergyman led First Baptist Church |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of Pittsburg with conviction and compassion, and he has earned |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the lasting respect and admiration of his congregants and members |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | of the wider community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Steve |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Packer on his retirement as pastor of First Baptist Church of |

| 31 | 31 | | Pittsburg and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |

| 32 | 32 | | success; and, be it further |
