55 WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew
66 to a close with the passing of John William Foster of Texarkana on
77 July 26, 2017, at the age of 95; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of John and Gertie Foster, "Jake" Foster
99 was born on July 29, 1921, in Blevins, Arkansas, where he
1010 graduated from high school; with the onset of World War II, he
1111 joined the United States Marines and proudly served his country
1212 as a machine gunner in Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Tinian, and Saipan,
1313 earning a Purple Heart for his valorous service; he went on to
1414 enjoy a rewarding career with Midwest Dairy in Bowie County that
1515 spanned three decades, and he later worked as an assistant
1616 building superintendent for the First Baptist Church; and
1717 WHEREAS, A man of deep faith, Mr. Foster was ordained as a
1818 deacon in 1966 and was a congregant of First Baptist Church
1919 Texarkana; he further gave of his time and talents as a member of
2020 the Evening Kiwanis Club, and he found fulfillment in working in
2121 his yard, gardening, and assisting loved ones with building
2222 projects; and
2323 WHEREAS, Mr. Foster was a devoted husband to his wife,
2424 Janette, and over the course of their more than seven decades
2525 together, the couple were blessed with a fine family that
2626 included 2 daughters, Sherry and Debbie, a son-in-law, Blaine,
2727 and 5 grandchildren, Steve, Mike, Brian, Staci, and Micah, as
2828 well as 10 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, 4
2929 step-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren, and 6
3030 step-great-great-grandchildren; and
3131 WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Jake Foster sought out ways
3232 to help others, and although he will be deeply missed, he leaves
3333 behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that will continue to
3434 inspire all those who had the good fortune to know him; now,
3535 therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
3737 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
3838 of John William Foster and extend heartfelt sympathy to his
3939 family and many friends; and, be it further
4040 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4141 his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do
4242 so in memory of Jake Foster.
