5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew |

6 | 6 | | to a close with the passing of John William Foster of Texarkana on |

7 | 7 | | July 26, 2017, at the age of 95; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of John and Gertie Foster, "Jake" Foster |
---|
9 | 9 | | was born on July 29, 1921, in Blevins, Arkansas, where he |
---|
10 | 10 | | graduated from high school; with the onset of World War II, he |
---|
11 | 11 | | joined the United States Marines and proudly served his country |
---|
12 | 12 | | as a machine gunner in Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Tinian, and Saipan, |
---|
13 | 13 | | earning a Purple Heart for his valorous service; he went on to |
---|
14 | 14 | | enjoy a rewarding career with Midwest Dairy in Bowie County that |
---|
15 | 15 | | spanned three decades, and he later worked as an assistant |
---|
16 | 16 | | building superintendent for the First Baptist Church; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A man of deep faith, Mr. Foster was ordained as a |
---|
18 | 18 | | deacon in 1966 and was a congregant of First Baptist Church |
---|
19 | 19 | | Texarkana; he further gave of his time and talents as a member of |
---|
20 | 20 | | the Evening Kiwanis Club, and he found fulfillment in working in |
---|
21 | 21 | | his yard, gardening, and assisting loved ones with building |
---|
22 | 22 | | projects; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Foster was a devoted husband to his wife, |
---|
24 | 24 | | Janette, and over the course of their more than seven decades |
---|
25 | 25 | | together, the couple were blessed with a fine family that |
---|
26 | 26 | | included 2 daughters, Sherry and Debbie, a son-in-law, Blaine, |
---|
27 | 27 | | and 5 grandchildren, Steve, Mike, Brian, Staci, and Micah, as |
---|
28 | 28 | | well as 10 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, 4 |
---|
29 | 29 | | step-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren, and 6 |
---|
30 | 30 | | step-great-great-grandchildren; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Jake Foster sought out ways |
---|
32 | 32 | | to help others, and although he will be deeply missed, he leaves |
---|
33 | 33 | | behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that will continue to |
---|
34 | 34 | | inspire all those who had the good fortune to know him; now, |
---|
35 | 35 | | therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
---|
37 | 37 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
---|
38 | 38 | | of John William Foster and extend heartfelt sympathy to his |
---|
39 | 39 | | family and many friends; and, be it further |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
41 | 41 | | his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do |
---|
42 | 42 | | so in memory of Jake Foster. |
