| 6 | 6 | | accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends of James |

| 7 | 7 | | Edward Garner of Daingerfield, who passed away on May 27, 2017, |

| 8 | 8 | | at the age of 83; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of F. J. Garner and Gordie Opal Garner, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Jim Garner was born in Texarkana, Arkansas, on April 17, 1934; |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | after graduating from Arkansas High School, he worked as a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | firefighter while attending North Texas State University; he |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | went on to answer his nation's call to duty as a member of the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | United States Air Force, and he attained the rank of captain |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | before returning to civilian life; for nearly four decades, he |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | enjoyed a successful career as a personnel director in the human |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | resources departments at Lone Star Steel and T&N Railroad; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Garner was a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | longtime member of the Daingerfield High School athletic booster |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | club and a valued congregant of the First Baptist Church of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Daingerfield, where he volunteered as a deacon for more than half |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | a century; he also remained dedicated to his fellow veterans, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | serving as a member of the honor guard of American Legion Post |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | No. 351 and as the veterans service officer of Morris County; in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | his leisure hours, he loved spending time in the great outdoors, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | especially hunting and fishing; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Garner was the devoted husband of Jean Daniel |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Garner, with whom he shared six rewarding decades of marriage; over |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the years, the couple were blessed with two children, Suzanne |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Carpenter and her husband, Dane, and Lee Austin Garner and his |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | wife, Marion, and they eventually knew the joy of welcoming into |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | their family four grandchildren, Cody Carpenter and his wife, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Megan, Nikki Carpenter, and Christina and Kimberly Garner, as well |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | as a great-granddaughter, Sadie Lynn Carpenter; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Jim Garner lived a rich and purposeful life |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | dedicated to his family, his faith, and his country, and he |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | leaves behind a record of service that his loved ones can |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | remember with pride; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | of James Edward Garner and extend heartfelt sympathy to his |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do |
|---|
