| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Highland Village Lions Club on the occasion of the |

| 4 | 4 | | 30th annual Highland Village Balloon Festival and Fair, taking |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | place August 18 through 20, 2017; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Lions Club International is a highly respected |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | organization of volunteers who seek to better their communities |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | through local service projects; the Highland Village Lions Club |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | is committed to serving area children by facilitating hearing and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | vision screenings at local preschools; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The Highland Village Lions Club hosted the first |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | balloon festival in 1987 with the help of the North Texas |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Ballooning Association; that event was a one-day celebration |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | that included 18 balloons and about 2,000 guests; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, the festival has grown to become |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the largest scheduled event in Denton County, with attendance of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | approximately 25,000 annually; proceeds from the festival enable |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the local Lions Club chapter to purchase state-of-the-art vision |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and hearing screening equipment capable of detecting early signs |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of sensory impairments; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The Highland Village Lions Club is dedicated to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | upholding the international organization's mission of service, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and the Highland Village Balloon Festival and Fair has benefited |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | thousands of local children while helping to shape a more vibrant |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the Highland |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Village Lions Club and all who have contributed to the success of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the Highland Village Balloon Festival and Fair and extend to them |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | best wishes for a memorable 2017 event; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 32 | 32 | | the club as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
