SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 152 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Boy Scout Troop 9 of Austin on the occasion of its 100th anniversary, which is being celebrated September 2, 2017; and WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 9 was established in May of 1917; it is currently chartered by the Bryker Woods Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association; and WHEREAS, Through the years, the troop has had 62 boys achieve the rank of Eagle Scout; countless others have learned first aid, citizenship, teamwork, rope tying, canoeing, and other skills; and WHEREAS, Troop 9 has undertaken many service projects to benefit the community, and its members have participated in high adventure trips to the famed Philmont Ranch in New Mexico and the boundary waters of Canada; an important part of the troop's legacy is the Scout Hut at Bryker Woods Elementary School, which was constructed in 1955 and continues to serve as a meeting place for Scouts and other groups of various kinds; and WHEREAS, Troop 9 has had a profound influence on the lives of young people in Austin for 100 years, and it is truly fitting that the troop receive special recognition as it celebrates this milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the current and former Scouts and Scoutmasters of Boy Scout Troop 9 on their commitment to the Scouting movement and extend to them best wishes for a memorable 100th anniversary celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the troop as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
