| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Boy Scout Troop 9 of Austin on the occasion of its 100th |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | anniversary, which is being celebrated September 2, 2017; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 9 was established in May of 1917; |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | it is currently chartered by the Bryker Woods Elementary School |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Parent-Teacher Association; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, the troop has had 62 boys achieve |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the rank of Eagle Scout; countless others have learned first aid, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | citizenship, teamwork, rope tying, canoeing, and other skills; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Troop 9 has undertaken many service projects to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | benefit the community, and its members have participated in high |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | adventure trips to the famed Philmont Ranch in New Mexico and the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | boundary waters of Canada; an important part of the troop's |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | legacy is the Scout Hut at Bryker Woods Elementary School, which |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | was constructed in 1955 and continues to serve as a meeting place |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | for Scouts and other groups of various kinds; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Troop 9 has had a profound influence on the lives |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of young people in Austin for 100 years, and it is truly fitting |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | that the troop receive special recognition as it celebrates this |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the current and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | former Scouts and Scoutmasters of Boy Scout Troop 9 on their |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | commitment to the Scouting movement and extend to them best wishes |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | for a memorable 100th anniversary celebration; and, be it further |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the troop as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
