2	2	WHEREAS, Michael V. Tidwell was appointed president of The
3	3	University of Texas at Tyler by The University of Texas System
4	4	Board of Regents on January 1, 2017; and
5	5	WHEREAS, A highly regarded administrator and educator,
6	6	Dr. Tidwell came to The University of Texas at Tyler from Eastern
7	7	Michigan University, where he was dean of the College of
8	8	Business; among other noteworthy accomplishments, he designed
9	9	and launched a plan that quadrupled fund-raising within three
10	10	years, and he established a new chair in entrepreneurship with a
11	11	$1 million gift; he previously served as dean of the College of
12	12	Business at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and as
13	13	assistant dean of the Clayton State University School of Business
14	14	in Georgia; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Dr. Tidwell began his academic career as a
16	16	visiting assistant professor in the College of Communication and
17	17	Information at the University of Kentucky--Lexington and later
18	18	joined the faculties of Whitworth University in Washington and
19	19	Truman State University--Kirksville in Missouri; in addition, he
20	20	has held several faculty appointments in India and Kenya; his
21	21	recent research is focused on managing business relationships
22	22	across international boundaries, and he is widely published in
23	23	such scholarly journals as the International Journal of
24	24	Management Theory and Practices, the Journal of Business
25	25	Communication, and Nonprofit Management and Leadership; since
26	26	2003, he has also been a business consultant in human resource
27	27	matters; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Born in southern California, with family roots in
29	29	Tyler, Dr. Tidwell received his bachelor's degree in communication
30	30	from Ball State University in 1995; he gained work experience in
31	31	marketing, corporate communications, and corporate management
32	32	before going on to complete both his master's degree in
33	33	communication and doctorate in organizational studies at
34	34	Washington State University; in all his endeavors, he is supported
35	35	by the love and encouragement of his wife, Karen, and he is the
36	36	proud father of two sons, Cyrus and Bradley; and
37	37	WHEREAS, Michael Tidwell has earned a sterling reputation
38	38	through his vision, dynamism, and commitment to excellence, and
39	39	The University of Texas at Tyler is sure to benefit from his
40	40	skilled leadership; now, therefore, be it
41	41	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
42	42	Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Michael V.
43	43	Tidwell on his new role as president of The University of Texas at
44	44	Tyler and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
45	45	success; and, be it further
46	46	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
47	47	Dr. Tidwell as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
