| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Maria Magdalena "Maggie" Sosa on the grand occasion of |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | her 80th birthday; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Maggie Sosa was born July 22, 1937, to Jose Angel |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | and Francisca Villarreal Garcia; the oldest of 10 children, she |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | helped raise several of her younger siblings alongside her own |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | small children after her mother died in 1967; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, She completed licensed vocational nursing school |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | in 1957 and worked in various nursing capacities before earning |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | a degree as a registered nurse in 1977; she then worked as a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | school nurse at several elementary schools during the week and at |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | nursing homes on the weekends, and she maintained this schedule |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | for 24 years; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A well-known and much-appreciated member of the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Brownsville community, she has provided nursing care for more |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | than 60 years; even though she semiretired in 2004, she continues |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | to serve senior citizens at Medford Assisted Living and mentally |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | challenged individuals at New Awakening Daycare; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, She and her beloved husband, the late Ramiro Sosa, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | had two children; she has also been blessed with five grandchildren |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and a great-grandchild, all of whom have been a source of much |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | pride and joy for her; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Mrs. Sosa is noted for her warmth, her wit, and her wise counsel, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and she inspires those around her with her enthusiasm for living |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to Maria |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Magdalena Sosa and extend to her best wishes for a memorable 80th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | birthday celebration; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
