| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Toribio Garza Jr., who is retiring as district engineer |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | for the Pharr District after nearly 30 years of outstanding |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | service with the Texas Department of Transportation; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Toribio Garza began his distinguished career in |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | state service in 1986 after earning a civil engineering degree |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | from The University of Texas at Austin; he held various |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | leadership positions in the Pharr and Corpus Christi Districts |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | before becoming director of the department's Maintenance |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Division in 2009; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Talented and resourceful, Mr. Garza was an |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | important member of the Pavement Management Program team that |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | received the 2011 Global Road Achievement Award from the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | International Road Federation; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, After a short retirement, he returned to state |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | service in 2013 to assume the position of district engineer for |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the Pharr District, where he has helped set in motion numerous |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | major projects that will transform the state's network of roads |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | in South Texas; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, he is respected and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | admired by his colleagues, and his leadership at the Texas |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Department of Transportation will be greatly missed; now, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Toribio Garza |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Jr. on his exceptional service to the people of Texas as an |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | engineer and administrator with the Texas Department of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Transportation and extend to him best wishes for continued |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | success in all his endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
