| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Lupita M. Perez for her outstanding service as |

| 4 | 4 | | commander of the Sergeant Benito Alaniz Veterans of Foreign Wars |

| 5 | 5 | | Post 7473; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, In 2005, after serving the nation with distinction |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | in the Iraq War, Lupita Perez became the first woman to join Post |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 7473; after several years, she began attending statewide |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | leadership training to learn how to help the post carry out its |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | mission of supporting veterans and providing service to the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | community; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, She was soon nominated by her peers to become the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | first woman to serve as the post's commander; under her exemplary |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | leadership, the post received All State and All American honors |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | for the first time in its history, and it has gone on to garner |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | each of these prestigious awards three times under her command; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Lupita Perez has been a groundbreaking commander |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | of her Veterans of Foreign Wars post, and it is truly fitting that |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | she receive special recognition for her outstanding achievements; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Lupita M. Perez |

| 23 | 23 | | on her exceptional work as commander of the Sergeant Benito Alaniz |

| 24 | 24 | | Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7473 and extend to her best wishes |
