| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Ben Crenshaw, who has been named the 2017 Texas Legend |

| 4 | 4 | | for the Eddie Lucio Scholarship Fund; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A native of Austin, champion golfer Ben Crenshaw |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | grew up playing with future greats such as Tom Kite, Bruce |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Lietzke, and Bill Rogers; he attended The University of Texas on |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | a golf scholarship, and he became the first freshman player to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | capture the individual title at a National Collegiate Athletic |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Association Tournament; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Ben has won numerous professional championships |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | in the course of his celebrated career, including the 1984 and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 1995 Masters Tournaments; his dramatic win at the 1995 tournament |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | will long be remembered by golf fans, as Ben earned his emotional |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | victory within days of losing his lifelong friend and mentor, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Harvey Penick; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 1999, Ben served as captain of the United States |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Ryder Cup team, and he led the team to the most stunning comeback |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | victory in Ryder Cup history; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Ben Crenshaw is a treasured citizen of the Lone Star |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | State; he has been honored with numerous professional accolades, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and he is the recipient of the 1992 Bob Jones Award, the highest |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | honor bestowed by the United States Golf Association; now, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | therefore, be it |

| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Ben Crenshaw for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | his outstanding career as a professional golfer and congratulate |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | him on being named the 2017 Texas Legend for the Eddie Lucio |

| 29 | 29 | | Scholarship Fund; and, be it further |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him |
