| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Gwen W. Grigsby, who is retiring from her position with |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | The University of Texas at Austin after a distinguished 31-year |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | career in state service and higher education; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Gwen Grigsby earned a master's degree from the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, and she began her |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | career by working for the office of Lieutenant Governor |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | William P. Hobby Jr. on issues relating to public and higher |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | education; as a member of his staff, she was involved with the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | major education reform effort of the Select Committee on |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Public Education; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, She later joined The University of Texas System, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | where she worked in governmental relations for 15 years; in 1998, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | she was hired as the associate vice president of Governmental |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Relations at The University of Texas at Austin, and over the last |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 19 years, her leadership has been a valuable asset to the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | department; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, A highly respected administrator, Gwen has |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | served the university and the university's system in numerous |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | capacities; she made a notable impact in such areas as the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | university system and public school collaboration, and she |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | served on the Committee on the Advancement of Women and the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Selection Advisory Committee for director of the University |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Interscholastic League; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Wherever she has served, Gwen Grigsby has handled |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | her far-reaching responsibilities with exceptional skill and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | dedication; she has helped to set standards for excellence in her |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | position in Governmental Relations, and her presence will be |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Gwen W. Grigsby |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | for her many contributions to the state and extend to her best |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | wishes in all her future endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
