| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson has |

| 3 | 3 | | demonstrated exceptional leadership and diligence in investigating |

| 4 | 4 | | allegations of voter fraud, and she is indeed deserving of |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | special recognition; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, In response to reports of widespread irregularities |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | involving mail-in ballots in two Dallas County elections in 2017, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | District Attorney Johnson and her team of prosecutors have worked |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | tirelessly to investigate the claims; moreover, her office has |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | formed a partnership with the Texas Attorney General's Office to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | thoroughly assess the evidence; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A 1980 graduate of the Thurgood Marshall School |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | of Law at Texas Southern University, Faith Johnson went to work |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | for the Dallas County District Attorney's Office in 1982 and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | rose through the ranks to become chief felony prosecutor; she |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | subsequently earned the distinction of becoming the first African |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | American woman elected to serve as a district criminal judge in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the state, and following 17 years on the bench, she worked for a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | nonprofit law firm for two years before establishing her own |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | private practice, Faith Johnson & Associates, in Irving in 2009; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, That same year, she was appointed by Governor Rick |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Perry as a member of the Texas Public Safety Commission, a role in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | which she helped oversee homeland security, border patrol, and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | terrorism prevention; in 2016, she was appointed by Governor Greg |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Abbott to serve out an unexpired term as Dallas County district |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | attorney, becoming the first African American woman to hold that |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | office; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, A true pioneer in her profession, Faith Johnson has |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | proven herself a top legal mind and a dedicated public servant, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | and her work in safeguarding the democratic process is greatly |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | benefiting her fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dallas County |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | District Attorney Faith Johnson on her outstanding efforts in |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | investigating voter fraud and extend to her sincere best wishes |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | for continued success with her important work; and, be it further |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
