11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 76
22 WHEREAS, Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson has
33 demonstrated exceptional leadership and diligence in investigating
44 allegations of voter fraud, and she is indeed deserving of
55 special recognition; and
66 WHEREAS, In response to reports of widespread irregularities
77 involving mail-in ballots in two Dallas County elections in 2017,
88 District Attorney Johnson and her team of prosecutors have worked
99 tirelessly to investigate the claims; moreover, her office has
1010 formed a partnership with the Texas Attorney General's Office to
1111 thoroughly assess the evidence; and
1212 WHEREAS, A 1980 graduate of the Thurgood Marshall School
1313 of Law at Texas Southern University, Faith Johnson went to work
1414 for the Dallas County District Attorney's Office in 1982 and
1515 rose through the ranks to become chief felony prosecutor; she
1616 subsequently earned the distinction of becoming the first African
1717 American woman elected to serve as a district criminal judge in
1818 the state, and following 17 years on the bench, she worked for a
1919 nonprofit law firm for two years before establishing her own
2020 private practice, Faith Johnson & Associates, in Irving in 2009;
2121 and
2222 WHEREAS, That same year, she was appointed by Governor Rick
2323 Perry as a member of the Texas Public Safety Commission, a role in
2424 which she helped oversee homeland security, border patrol, and
2525 terrorism prevention; in 2016, she was appointed by Governor Greg
2626 Abbott to serve out an unexpired term as Dallas County district
2727 attorney, becoming the first African American woman to hold that
2828 office; and
2929 WHEREAS, A true pioneer in her profession, Faith Johnson has
3030 proven herself a top legal mind and a dedicated public servant,
3131 and her work in safeguarding the democratic process is greatly
3232 benefiting her fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
3434 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dallas County
3535 District Attorney Faith Johnson on her outstanding efforts in
3636 investigating voter fraud and extend to her sincere best wishes
3737 for continued success with her important work; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3939 Ms. Johnson as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
