4	4	Emil Eugene Ogden
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6	6	commemorates the life of Emil Eugene Ogden, who died July 25,
7	7	2017, at the age of 89; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Emil Ogden was born on September 15, 1927, in
9	9	Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Homer and Mary Ogden; he served the
10	10	country with distinction in the armed forces during World War II,
11	11	and he graduated magna cum laude at the age of 60 from Texas A&M
12	12	University; and
13	13	WHEREAS, Mr. Ogden married Clementine Theresa Lindeman on
14	14	September 23, 1947, and the couple enjoyed more than 69 years of
15	15	marriage together; their children, Stephen, Mary Katherine,
16	16	Paul, Michael, Joseph, and Laura, and their 23 grandchildren and
17	17	12 great-grandchildren were a source of much pride and joy for
18	18	him; and
19	19	WHEREAS, He enjoyed a long and successful career as an
20	20	independent oilman; he was a true wildcatter who never allowed a
21	21	dry hole to dim his enthusiasm for the business, and he was
22	22	instrumental in developing the Bryan Woodbine field; he served
23	23	for a time as president of the West Texas Oil and Gas Association
24	24	and as vice chair of the Governor's Energy Advisory Council; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Mr. Ogden was committed to giving back to his
26	26	community and was active in a wide range of civic and
27	27	philanthropic organizations, including the Brazos Valley
28	28	Symphony Society, the Boy Scouts of America, the Veterans of
29	29	Foreign Wars Post 4692, and the Brazos Valley Boys and Girls
30	30	Club; and
31	31	WHEREAS, His long record of public service included time on
32	32	the Abilene City Council, duty as a Brazos County Sheriff's
33	33	Office reserve criminal investigations deputy, and membership on
34	34	the United States Foreign Investment Advisory Committee, the
35	35	Texas Workers' Compensation Advisory Council, the Texas A&M
36	36	University Health Science Center Foundation, and the Director's
37	37	Circle of the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library; and
38	38	WHEREAS, A devout Catholic who practiced his faith in his
39	39	daily life, he was a member of Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish in
40	40	College Station; he was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus and
41	41	held numerous offices in the organization; he was a Knight Grand
42	42	Cross of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem
43	43	and was awarded the Holy Trinity Medal of Honor; and
44	44	WHEREAS, He was a man of courage, strength, and resolve who
45	45	gave unselfishly to others, and his engaging personality, his
46	46	intellectual curiosity, and his enthusiasm for living each day to
47	47	the fullest will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to
48	48	share in his life; and
49	49	WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
50	50	and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
51	51	his family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it
52	52	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
53	53	Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
54	54	condolences to the bereaved family of Emil Eugene Ogden; and, be
55	55	it further
56	56	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
57	57	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
58	58	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
59	59	memory of Emil Ogden.
