55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Emil Eugene Ogden, who died July 25,
77 2017, at the age of 89; and
88 WHEREAS, Emil Ogden was born on September 15, 1927, in
99 Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Homer and Mary Ogden; he served the
1010 country with distinction in the armed forces during World War II,
1111 and he graduated magna cum laude at the age of 60 from Texas A&M
1212 University; and
1313 WHEREAS, Mr. Ogden married Clementine Theresa Lindeman on
1414 September 23, 1947, and the couple enjoyed more than 69 years of
1515 marriage together; their children, Stephen, Mary Katherine,
1616 Paul, Michael, Joseph, and Laura, and their 23 grandchildren and
1717 12 great-grandchildren were a source of much pride and joy for
1818 him; and
1919 WHEREAS, He enjoyed a long and successful career as an
2020 independent oilman; he was a true wildcatter who never allowed a
2121 dry hole to dim his enthusiasm for the business, and he was
2222 instrumental in developing the Bryan Woodbine field; he served
2323 for a time as president of the West Texas Oil and Gas Association
2424 and as vice chair of the Governor's Energy Advisory Council; and
2525 WHEREAS, Mr. Ogden was committed to giving back to his
2626 community and was active in a wide range of civic and
2727 philanthropic organizations, including the Brazos Valley
2828 Symphony Society, the Boy Scouts of America, the Veterans of
2929 Foreign Wars Post 4692, and the Brazos Valley Boys and Girls
3030 Club; and
3131 WHEREAS, His long record of public service included time on
3232 the Abilene City Council, duty as a Brazos County Sheriff's
3333 Office reserve criminal investigations deputy, and membership on
3434 the United States Foreign Investment Advisory Committee, the
3535 Texas Workers' Compensation Advisory Council, the Texas A&M
3636 University Health Science Center Foundation, and the Director's
3737 Circle of the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library; and
3838 WHEREAS, A devout Catholic who practiced his faith in his
3939 daily life, he was a member of Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish in
4040 College Station; he was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus and
4141 held numerous offices in the organization; he was a Knight Grand
4242 Cross of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem
4343 and was awarded the Holy Trinity Medal of Honor; and
4444 WHEREAS, He was a man of courage, strength, and resolve who
4545 gave unselfishly to others, and his engaging personality, his
4646 intellectual curiosity, and his enthusiasm for living each day to
4747 the fullest will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to
4848 share in his life; and
4949 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
5050 and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
5151 his family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it
5252 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
5353 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
5454 condolences to the bereaved family of Emil Eugene Ogden; and, be
5555 it further
5656 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
5757 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
5858 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
5959 memory of Emil Ogden.
