| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Jane Meyers for her 48 years of outstanding service at |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | the Amarillo Botanical Gardens; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A devoted volunteer since 1969, Jane Meyers has |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | served the Amarillo Botanical Gardens as a tour guide, recruiter, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and teacher, and she was in charge of the center as its director |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | from 1979 to 1992; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Meyers has found great fulfillment in her |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | years at the gardens, as her time there has connected her to her |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | two passions, people and garden flowers; she is happy to tackle |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | any task, however great or small, and she finds particular joy in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | taking children on guided tours; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A beloved volunteer, Jane is respected and admired |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | by all who give of their time at the gardens; the staff recently |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | expressed their gratitude for her many years of service by |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | unveiling a tiled mosaic of a purple iris that has been installed |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | at the gardens' entrance in her honor; the mosaic was created by |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Tarrie Sue and Ken Pirtle, who used more than 63,000 ceramic |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | tiles and dedicated more than 200 hours to completing the piece; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | a plaque was placed alongside the iris thanking Jane for her five |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | decades of service, and the unveiling included a celebration in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | her honor; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Jane Meyers is known for her kindness, her |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | generosity, and her spirited personality; she exemplifies the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | highest ideals of volunteerism, and she is indeed deserving of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | recognition for helping to shape the long-term success of the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Amarillo Botanical Gardens; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Jane Meyers for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | her many contributions to the Amarillo community and extend to |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | her best wishes in all her endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
