| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Dr. Charlotte J. Davis, the First Lady of Galilee |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Missionary Baptist Church, who is being honored at the Sundresses |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | and Sandals celebration on August 12, 2017; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Charlotte Davis was baptized |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | as a young girl at Greater New Hope Baptist Church; she graduated |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | valedictorian of her class at Booker T. Washington High School, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and she went on to earn two master's degrees in education, an |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | accomplishment that allowed her to follow her passion for helping |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | young people; in 2006, she earned a doctorate of philosophy in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | counseling education from Sam Houston State University, and she |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | currently serves as director of Guidance and Counseling for the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Aldine Independent School District; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Davis is a faithful and beloved member of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, where her husband, the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Reverend Dr. Edwin Allen Davis, serves as pastor; she contributes |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | to the church by serving as director of the Scholarship Ministry |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and as a Sunday school teacher, and she is always ready to serve |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the church family in any capacity; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, A highly respected scholar and community leader, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Dr. Davis has been recognized by several organizations for her |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | many accomplishments; she has been honored with a Woman of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Excellence Award from the Omicron Tau Omega Chapter of the Alpha |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Kappa Alpha Sorority and with a Living Legend Award from Prairie |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | View A&M University; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Davis is a source of strength to the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | congregants of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, and she is |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | admired by many for her kindness, her generosity, and her |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | faithful service to others; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dr. Charlotte |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | J. Davis for her many contributions to the community and to |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and extend to her best wishes |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | in all her future endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
