55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the number of school marshals that may be appointed to
88 serve on a public school campus or at a private school.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 37.0811(a), Education Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (a) The board of trustees of a school district or the
1313 governing body of an open-enrollment charter school may appoint one
1414 or more school marshals for each campus [not more than the greater
1515 of:
1616 [(1) one school marshal per 200 students in average
1717 daily attendance per campus; or
1818 [(2) for each campus, one school marshal per building of
1919 the campus at which students regularly receive classroom
2020 instruction].
2121 SECTION 2. Section 37.0813(a), Education Code, is amended
2222 to read as follows:
2323 (a) The governing body of a private school may appoint one
2424 or more school marshals [not more than the greater of:
2525 [(1) one school marshal per 200 students enrolled in
2626 the school; or
2727 [(2) one school marshal per building of the school at
2828 which students regularly receive classroom instruction].
2929 SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020
3030 school year.
3131 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3232 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3333 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3434 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3535 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
