66 AN ACT
77 relating to the prizes awarded in certain pull-tab bingo games.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 2001.002, Occupations Code, is amended
1010 by adding Subdivision (6-a) to read as follows:
1111 (6-a) "Carryover pull-tab bingo" means a form of
1212 pull-tab bingo that is played in successive event pull-tab bingo
1313 deals of the same form number and in which a portion of the bingo
1414 prize awarded to the winner of the event prize for each deal is paid
1515 into a jackpot prize, the winner of the event prize for each deal
1616 has the opportunity to win the jackpot prize, and the play continues
1717 until the jackpot prize is awarded. This term does not include a
1818 game played on a gambling device as defined by Section 47.01, Penal
1919 Code.
2020 SECTION 2. Sections 2001.420(a) and (b), Occupations Code,
2121 are amended to read as follows:
2222 (a) A bingo prize may not have a value of more than $750 for
2323 a single game, except that a jackpot prize awarded in a carryover
2424 pull-tab bingo game may not have a value of more than $10,000.
2525 (b) A person may not offer or award on a single bingo
2626 occasion prizes with an aggregate value of more than $2,500 for all
2727 bingo games other than:
2828 (1) pull-tab bingo, including carryover pull-tab
2929 bingo; or
3030 (2) bingo games that award individual prizes of $50 or
3131 less.
3232 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3333 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3434 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3535 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3636 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
