| 6 | 13 | | certain persons carrying handguns. |

| 7 | 14 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 15 | | SECTION 1. Section 30.06, Penal Code, is amended by adding |
|---|
| 9 | 16 | | Subsection (g) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 17 | | (g) It is a defense to prosecution under this section that |
|---|
| 11 | 18 | | the license holder was personally given notice by oral |
|---|
| 12 | 19 | | communication described by Subsection (b) and promptly departed |
|---|
| 13 | 20 | | from the property. |
|---|
| 14 | 21 | | SECTION 2. Section 30.07, Penal Code, is amended by adding |
|---|
| 15 | 22 | | Subsection (h) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 16 | 23 | | (h) It is a defense to prosecution under this section that |
|---|
| 17 | 24 | | the license holder was personally given notice by oral |
|---|
| 18 | 25 | | communication described by Subsection (b) and promptly departed |
|---|
| 19 | 26 | | from the property. |
|---|
| 20 | 27 | | SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|---|
| 21 | 28 | | to an offense committed on or after the effective date of this Act. |
|---|
| 22 | 29 | | An offense committed before the effective date of this Act is |
|---|
| 23 | 30 | | governed by the law in effect on the date the offense was committed, |
|---|
| 24 | 31 | | and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. For |
|---|
| 25 | 32 | | purposes of this section, an offense was committed before the |
|---|
| 26 | 33 | | effective date of this Act if any element of the offense occurred |
|---|
| 27 | 34 | | before that date. |
|---|
| 28 | 35 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
