55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the annual salaries of the chief justice or the
88 presiding judge of an appellate court.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 659.012(a), Government Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (a) Notwithstanding Section 659.011:
1313 (1) a judge of a district court is entitled to an
1414 annual salary from the state of at least $125,000, except that the
1515 combined salary of a district judge from state and county sources,
1616 including compensation for any extrajudicial services performed on
1717 behalf of the county, may not exceed the amount that is $5,000 less
1818 than the salary provided for a justice of a court of appeals other
1919 than a chief justice;
2020 (2) a justice of a court of appeals other than the
2121 chief justice is entitled to an annual salary from the state that is
2222 equal to 110 percent of the salary of a district judge, except that
2323 the combined salary of a justice of the court of appeals other than
2424 the chief justice from all state and county sources, including
2525 compensation for any extrajudicial services performed on behalf of
2626 the county, may not exceed the amount that is $5,000 less than the
2727 salary provided for a justice of the supreme court;
2828 (3) a justice of the supreme court other than the chief
2929 justice or a judge of the court of criminal appeals other than the
3030 presiding judge is entitled to an annual salary from the state that
3131 is equal to 120 percent of the salary of a district judge; [and]
3232 (4) the chief justice [or presiding judge] of a court
3333 of appeals [an appellate court] is entitled to an annual salary from
3434 the state that is $5,000 [$2,500] more than the salary provided for
3535 the other justices or judges of the court, except that the combined
3636 salary of the chief justice of a court of appeals may not exceed the
3737 [amount that is $2,500 less than the] salary provided for a justice
3838 of the supreme court; and
3939 (5) the chief justice of the supreme court or the
4040 presiding judge of the court of criminal appeals is entitled to an
4141 annual salary from the state that is $10,000 more than the salary
4242 provided for the other justices or judges of the court.
4343 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
