10+ A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
411 AN ACT
512 relating to grants for the development and operation of pretrial
613 intervention programs for pregnant defendants and defendants who
714 are the primary caretaker of a child.
815 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
916 SECTION 1. Section 509.011, Government Code, is amended by
1017 adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows:
1118 (b-1) The division may award a grant to a department for the
1219 development and operation of a pretrial intervention program for
1320 defendants who are:
1421 (1) pregnant at the time of placement into the
1522 program; or
1623 (2) the primary caretaker of a child younger than 18
1724 years of age.
1825 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1926 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2027 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2128 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2229 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
