| 6 | 13 | | intervention programs for pregnant defendants and defendants who |
|---|
| 7 | 14 | | are the primary caretaker of a child. |

| 8 | 15 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 16 | | SECTION 1. Section 509.011, Government Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 10 | 17 | | adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 18 | | (b-1) The division may award a grant to a department for the |
|---|
| 12 | 19 | | development and operation of a pretrial intervention program for |
|---|
| 13 | 20 | | defendants who are: |
|---|
| 14 | 21 | | (1) pregnant at the time of placement into the |
|---|
| 15 | 22 | | program; or |
|---|
| 16 | 23 | | (2) the primary caretaker of a child younger than 18 |
|---|
| 17 | 24 | | years of age. |
|---|
| 18 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 19 | 26 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 20 | 27 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 21 | 28 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 22 | 29 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
