55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to election information provided to voters through a
88 mobile application for wireless communication devices.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 31, Election Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 31.014 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 31.014. ELECTION INFORMATION MOBILE APPLICATION. (a)
1313 The secretary of state, in conjunction with the Department of
1414 Information Resources, shall develop a mobile application for
1515 wireless communication devices and make the application available
1616 to the public.
1717 (b) The application must allow a person to access
1818 information relevant to a voter in this state, including:
1919 (1) a secure digital copy of the voter's registration
2020 card, subject to the restrictions imposed by Section 18.066(b);
2121 (2) information on the scheduled dates for early
2222 voting and election day, including the delivery of notifications
2323 reminding the voter of those dates;
2424 (3) sample ballots;
2525 (4) information on how to vote and the identification
2626 required to vote under Section 63.001(b);
2727 (5) a map or list by county of polling place locations
2828 and hours for voting;
2929 (6) current and historical election results; and
3030 (7) other information relevant to a voter in this
3131 state, as determined by the secretary of state.
3232 (c) The secretary of state shall coordinate with election
3333 officers in each county of this state to ensure that information
3434 provided through the application is accurate and up to date.
3535 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
