| 9 | 11 | SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 622, Transportation Code, | |
| 10 | 12 | is amended by adding Section 622.956 to read as follows: | |
| 11 | 13 | Sec. 622.956. OVER-THE-ROAD BUS. (a) In this section, | |
| 12 | 14 | "over-the-road bus" has the meaning assigned by 42 U.S.C. Section | |
| 13 | 15 | 12181. | |
| 14 | 16 | (b) An over-the-road bus may be operated on a public highway | |
| 15 | 17 | of this state only if the gross weight and tires of the bus conform | |
| 16 | 18 | to Section 621.101 and: | |
| 17 | 19 | (1) the single axle weight is not heavier than 24,000 | |
| 18 | 20 | pounds; or | |
| 19 | 21 | (2) the tandem axle weight does not exceed the maximum | |
| 20 | 22 | tandem axle weight under Section 621.101 by more than 20 percent. | |
| 21 | 23 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
