| 8 | 8 | | Rockwall County. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 25.2011, Government Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 25.2011. ROCKWALL COUNTY. Rockwall County has the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | following statutory county courts: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (1) [one statutory county court,] the County Court at |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Law No. 1 of Rockwall County; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (2) the County Court at Law No. 2 of Rockwall County. |

| 17 | 17 | | SECTION 2. Sections 25.2012(c), (g), and (h), Government |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Code, are amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (c) The district clerk serves as clerk of a county court at |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | law except that the county clerk serves as clerk of a [the] county |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | court at law in matters of mental health, the probate and criminal |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | misdemeanor docket, and all civil matters in which a [the] county |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | court at law does not have concurrent jurisdiction with a [the] |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | district court. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (g) When administering a case for a [the] county court at |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | law, the district clerk shall charge civil fees and court costs as |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | if the case had been filed in a [the] district court. In a case of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | concurrent jurisdiction, the case shall be assigned to either a |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | [the] district court or a [the] county court at law in accordance |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | with local administrative rules established by the local |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | administrative judge. |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (h) The judge of a [the] county court at law shall appoint an |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | official court reporter for the judge's court and shall set the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | official court reporter's annual salary, subject to approval by the |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | county commissioners court. The official court reporter of a [the] |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | county court at law shall take an oath or affirmation as an officer |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | of the court. The official court reporter holds office at the |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | pleasure of the judge [of the court] and shall be provided a private |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | office in close proximity to the court. The official court reporter |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | is entitled to all rights and benefits afforded all other county |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | employees. |

| 42 | 42 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
