55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to credit toward a defendant's sentence for time confined
88 in jail or prison before sentencing.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Article 42.03, Code of Criminal Procedure, is
1111 amended by adding Section 2-a to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 2-a. In addition to the credit given to a defendant
1313 under Section 2, the judge of the court in which the defendant is
1414 convicted may give the defendant credit on the defendant's sentence
1515 for any time the defendant was confined in jail or prison for
1616 another case only, if that confinement occurred after the
1717 commission of the offense for which the defendant is convicted and
1818 before the date of the defendant's sentencing.
1919 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies to a
2020 defendant who is sentenced for an offense on or after the effective
2121 date of this Act, regardless of whether the offense is committed
2222 before, on, or after the effective date of this Act.
2323 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
