| 6 | 12 | | enter into an agreement to create a mutual aid law enforcement task |

| 8 | 14 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 15 | | SECTION 1. Section 362.002(b), Local Government Code, is |
|---|
| 10 | 16 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 17 | | (b) A county, municipality, or joint airport may, by |
|---|
| 12 | 18 | | resolution or order of its governing body, enter into an agreement |
|---|
| 13 | 19 | | with a [neighboring] municipality, joint airport, or [contiguous] |
|---|
| 14 | 20 | | county to form a mutual aid law enforcement task force to cooperate |
|---|
| 15 | 21 | | in criminal investigations and law enforcement. Peace officers |
|---|
| 16 | 22 | | employed by counties, municipalities, or joint airports covered by |
|---|
| 17 | 23 | | the agreement have only the additional investigative authority |
|---|
| 18 | 24 | | throughout the region as set forth in the agreement. The agreement |
|---|
| 19 | 25 | | must provide for the compensation of peace officers involved in the |
|---|
| 20 | 26 | | activities of the task force. |
|---|
| 21 | 27 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 22 | 28 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 23 | 29 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 24 | 30 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 25 | 31 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
