410 AN ACT
511 relating to public access to certain information included on
612 personal financial statements filed by county judicial officers.
713 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
814 SECTION 1. The heading to Section 159.055, Local Government
915 Code, is amended to read as follows:
1016 Sec. 159.055. PUBLIC ACCESS TO STATEMENTS AND RELATED
1117 RECORDS.
1218 SECTION 2. Section 159.055(b), Local Government Code, is
1319 amended to read as follows:
1420 (b) The [On the written request of a county judicial officer
1521 or candidate, the] county clerk or the commission shall remove the
1622 officer's or candidate's home address and the names of the officer's
1723 or candidate's dependent children from the officer's or candidate's
1824 financial statement and any county or commission record derived
1925 from the financial statement before the statement or record is made
2026 available to a member of the public.
2127 SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act to Section
2228 159.055(b), Local Government Code, applies to information included
2329 in a financial statement regardless of whether the statement was
2430 filed before the effective date of this Act.
2531 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2632 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2733 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2834 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2935 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
