9+ A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
410 AN ACT
511 relating to an exemption from the assessment requirements of the
612 Texas Success Initiative for students who achieve a certain score
713 on a high school equivalency examination.
814 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
915 SECTION 1. Section 51.338, Education Code, is amended by
1016 adding Subsection (h) to read as follows:
1117 (h) A student who has achieved a score set by the board on a
1218 high school equivalency examination administered under Section
1319 7.111 is exempt from the requirements of this subchapter. The
1420 commissioner of higher education by rule shall establish the period
1521 for which an exemption under this subsection is valid.
1622 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies
1723 beginning with the assessment of entering undergraduate students at
1824 public institutions of higher education for the 2020 fall semester.
1925 The assessment of an entering undergraduate student for an academic
2026 term before that semester is governed by the law in effect before
2127 the effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect
2228 for that purpose.
2329 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
