411 AN ACT
512 relating to compensation under the Crime Victims' Compensation Act
613 for certain expenses.
714 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
815 SECTION 1. Article 56.42(d), Code of Criminal Procedure, is
916 amended to read as follows:
1017 (d) A [victim who is a] victim of stalking, family violence,
1118 or trafficking of persons, [or] a victim of sexual assault who is
1219 assaulted in the victim's place of residence, or a child who is a
1320 victim of a murder attempt in the child's place of residence may
1421 receive a onetime-only assistance payment in an amount not to
1522 exceed:
1623 (1) $2,000 to be used for relocation expenses,
1724 including expenses for rental deposit, utility connections,
1825 expenses relating to the moving of belongings, motor vehicle
1926 mileage expenses, and for out-of-state moves, transportation,
2027 lodging, and meals; and
2128 (2) $1,800 to be used for housing rental expenses.
2229 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
2330 to a victim of a criminal offense committed on or after the
2431 effective date of this Act. A criminal offense committed before the
2532 effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the
2633 date the offense was committed, and the former law is continued in
2734 effect for that purpose. For purposes of this section, a criminal
2835 offense was committed before the effective date of this Act if any
2936 element of the offense occurred before that date.
3037 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
