8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Chapter 20, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, is | |
10 | 10 | amended by adding Section 20.003 to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | Sec. 20.003. NON-STENOGRAPHIC RECORDING. Notwithstanding | |
12 | 12 | Section 20.001, any party may record an oral deposition by a method, | |
13 | 13 | including videotape recording, other than stenographic recording | |
14 | 14 | in accordance with the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure. | |
15 | 15 | SECTION 2. Section 154.101(f), Government Code, is amended | |
16 | 16 | to read as follows: | |
17 | 17 | (f) Except as provided by Section 154.112 and by Chapter 20 | |
18 | 18 | [Section 20.001], Civil Practice and Remedies Code, all depositions | |
19 | 19 | conducted in this state must be recorded by a certified shorthand | |
20 | 20 | reporter. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
22 | 22 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
23 | 23 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
24 | 24 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
25 | 25 | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
