7 | 7 | relating to certain counties that are required to operate a | |
8 | 8 | juvenile justice alternative education program. | |
9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 37.011(a-2), Education Code, is amended | |
11 | 11 | to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (a-2) Notwithstanding Subsection (a-1), for [For] purposes | |
13 | 13 | of this section and Section 37.010(a), a county [with a population | |
14 | 14 | greater than 125,000] is considered to be a county with a population | |
15 | 15 | greater than [of] 125,000 [or less] if the county: | |
16 | 16 | (1) has a population greater than 125,000 and less | |
17 | 17 | than [of] 180,000 [or less]; | |
18 | 18 | (2) is adjacent to two counties, each of which has a | |
19 | 19 | population of more than 1.7 million; and | |
20 | 20 | (3) has seven or more school districts located wholly | |
21 | 21 | within the county's boundaries. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020 | |
23 | 23 | school year. | |
24 | 24 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
25 | 25 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
26 | 26 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
27 | 27 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
28 | 28 | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
