55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to certain counties that are required to operate a
88 juvenile justice alternative education program.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 37.011(a-2), Education Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (a-2) Notwithstanding Subsection (a-1), for [For] purposes
1313 of this section and Section 37.010(a), a county [with a population
1414 greater than 125,000] is considered to be a county with a population
1515 greater than [of] 125,000 [or less] if the county:
1616 (1) has a population greater than 125,000 and less
1717 than [of] 180,000 [or less];
1818 (2) is adjacent to two counties, each of which has a
1919 population of more than 1.7 million; and
2020 (3) has seven or more school districts located wholly
2121 within the county's boundaries.
2222 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020
2323 school year.
2424 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2525 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2626 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2727 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2828 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
