9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subtitle D, Title 2, Labor Code, is amended by | |
11 | 11 | adding Chapter 83 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | CHAPTER 83. MUNICIPAL REGULATION OF EMPLOYMENT LEAVE | |
13 | 13 | Sec. 83.001. DEFINITIONS. In this chapter: | |
14 | 14 | (1) "Employee" means an individual who is employed by | |
15 | 15 | an employer for compensation. | |
16 | 16 | (2) "Employer" means a person who employs one or more | |
17 | 17 | employees. | |
18 | 18 | Sec. 83.002. MUNICIPAL REGULATION OF SICK LEAVE PROHIBITED. | |
19 | 19 | (a) The governing body of a municipality may not adopt or enforce | |
20 | 20 | any ordinance, rule, or regulation that requires an employer to | |
21 | 21 | provide to an employee paid sick leave. | |
22 | 22 | (b) An ordinance, rule, or regulation that violates | |
23 | 23 | Subsection (a) is void and unenforceable. | |
24 | 24 | SECTION 2. Chapter 83, Labor Code, as added by this Act, | |
25 | 25 | applies to an ordinance, rule, or regulation adopted before, on, or | |
26 | 26 | after the effective date of this Act. | |
27 | 27 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
