66 AN ACT
77 relating to a study of the feasibility of converting quarries and
88 surface mine pits for use as water storage reservoirs to enhance
99 this state's available water supply.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. (a) The legislature shall establish a joint
1212 interim committee to study the feasibility and desirability of
1313 converting quarries and surface mine pits for use as water storage
1414 reservoirs to enhance this state's available water supply.
1515 (b) The committee is composed of:
1616 (1) the members of the standing committee of the
1717 senate that has primary jurisdiction over natural resources; and
1818 (2) the members of the standing committee of the house
1919 of representatives that has primary jurisdiction over natural
2020 resources.
2121 (c) The lieutenant governor and the speaker of the house of
2222 representatives shall jointly designate a chair or, alternatively,
2323 designate two co-chairs from among the committee membership.
2424 (d) The committee may adopt rules necessary to carry out the
2525 committee's duties under this section.
2626 (e) Not later than December 1, 2020, the committee shall
2727 report to the governor and the legislature the findings of the study
2828 and any recommendations developed by the committee under this
2929 section.
3030 (f) The committee is abolished and this Act expires January
3131 12, 2021.
3232 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
