7 | 7 | relating to a study of the feasibility of converting quarries and | |
8 | 8 | surface mine pits for use as water storage reservoirs to enhance | |
9 | 9 | this state's available water supply. | |
10 | 10 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
11 | 11 | SECTION 1. (a) The legislature shall establish a joint | |
12 | 12 | interim committee to study the feasibility and desirability of | |
13 | 13 | converting quarries and surface mine pits for use as water storage | |
14 | 14 | reservoirs to enhance this state's available water supply. | |
15 | 15 | (b) The committee is composed of: | |
16 | 16 | (1) the members of the standing committee of the | |
17 | 17 | senate that has primary jurisdiction over natural resources; and | |
18 | 18 | (2) the members of the standing committee of the house | |
19 | 19 | of representatives that has primary jurisdiction over natural | |
20 | 20 | resources. | |
21 | 21 | (c) The lieutenant governor and the speaker of the house of | |
22 | 22 | representatives shall jointly designate a chair or, alternatively, | |
23 | 23 | designate two co-chairs from among the committee membership. | |
24 | 24 | (d) The committee may adopt rules necessary to carry out the | |
25 | 25 | committee's duties under this section. | |
26 | 26 | (e) Not later than December 1, 2020, the committee shall | |
27 | 27 | report to the governor and the legislature the findings of the study | |
28 | 28 | and any recommendations developed by the committee under this | |
29 | 29 | section. | |
30 | 30 | (f) The committee is abolished and this Act expires January | |
31 | 31 | 12, 2021. | |
32 | 32 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
