| 5 | 11 | | relating to the authority of the attorney general to advertise |
|---|
| 6 | 12 | | Choose Life account grants. |
|---|
| 7 | 13 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|---|
| 8 | 14 | | SECTION 1. Section 402.036, Government Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 9 | 15 | | amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (b-1) to read as |
|---|
| 10 | 16 | | follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 17 | | (b) The attorney general administers the Choose Life |
|---|
| 12 | 18 | | account. The attorney general may spend money credited to the |
|---|
| 13 | 19 | | account only to: |
|---|
| 14 | 20 | | (1) make grants to an eligible organization; and |
|---|
| 15 | 21 | | (2) defray the cost of administering the account, |
|---|
| 16 | 22 | | including the cost of advertising authorized by Subsection (b-1). |
|---|
| 17 | 23 | | (b-1) The attorney general may advertise that fees paid for |
|---|
| 18 | 24 | | the issuance of a license plate in accordance with Section 504.662, |
|---|
| 19 | 25 | | Transportation Code, may be used to fund the grants described by |
|---|
| 20 | 26 | | Subsection (b)(1), provided that the money spent under this |
|---|
| 21 | 27 | | subsection does not exceed two percent of the amount of gross |
|---|
| 22 | 28 | | receipts deposited to the Choose Life account during the preceding |
|---|
| 23 | 29 | | state fiscal year. |
|---|
| 24 | 30 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 25 | 31 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 26 | 32 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 27 | 33 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 28 | 34 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
