| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 1952.153, Insurance Code, is amended to | |
| 11 | 11 | read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 1952.153. MAXIMUM REQUIRED AMOUNT OF PERSONAL INJURY | |
| 13 | 13 | PROTECTION. This subchapter does not require an insurer to provide | |
| 14 | 14 | personal injury protection coverage in an amount that exceeds | |
| 15 | 15 | $5,000 [$2,500] for all benefits, in the aggregate, for each | |
| 16 | 16 | person. | |
| 17 | 17 | SECTION 2. This Act applies only to an insurance policy or | |
| 18 | 18 | contract that is delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed on or | |
| 19 | 19 | after January 1, 2020. An insurance policy or contract delivered, | |
| 20 | 20 | issued for delivery, or renewed before January 1, 2020, is governed | |
| 21 | 21 | by the law as it existed immediately before the effective date of | |
| 22 | 22 | this Act, and that law is continued in effect for that purpose. | |
| 23 | 23 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
