77 relating to the required amount of personal injury protection

99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 1952.153, Insurance Code, is amended to
1111 read as follows:
1212 Sec. 1952.153. MAXIMUM REQUIRED AMOUNT OF PERSONAL INJURY
1313 PROTECTION. This subchapter does not require an insurer to provide
1414 personal injury protection coverage in an amount that exceeds
1515 $5,000 [$2,500] for all benefits, in the aggregate, for each
1616 person.
1717 SECTION 2. This Act applies only to an insurance policy or
1818 contract that is delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed on or
1919 after January 1, 2020. An insurance policy or contract delivered,
2020 issued for delivery, or renewed before January 1, 2020, is governed
2121 by the law as it existed immediately before the effective date of
2222 this Act, and that law is continued in effect for that purpose.
2323 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
