55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the confidentiality of the home or residence address of
88 a state or federal judge or the judge's spouse in certain government
99 records and documents.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 25.025(b), Tax Code, is amended to read
1212 as follows:
1313 (b) Information in appraisal records under Section 25.02 is
1414 confidential and is available only for the official use of the
1515 appraisal district, this state, the comptroller, and taxing units
1616 and political subdivisions of this state if:
1717 (1) the information identifies the home address of a
1818 named individual to whom this section applies; and
1919 (2) the individual:
2020 (A) chooses to restrict public access to the
2121 information on the form prescribed for that purpose by the
2222 comptroller under Section 5.07; or
2323 (B) is a federal or state judge [as defined by
2424 Section 572.002, Government Code], or the spouse of a federal or
2525 state judge, beginning on the date the Office of Court
2626 Administration of the Texas Judicial System notifies the appraisal
2727 district of the judge's qualification for the judge's office.
2828 SECTION 2. Section 521.121(c), Transportation Code, is
2929 amended to read as follows:
3030 (c) The department shall establish a procedure, on a license
3131 holder's qualification for office as a federal or state judge as
3232 defined by Section 13.0021, Election Code [572.002, Government
3333 Code], to omit the residence address of the judge and the spouse of
3434 the judge on the license holder's license and to include, in lieu of
3535 that address, the street address of the courthouse in which the
3636 license holder or license holder's spouse serves as a federal judge
3737 or state judge.
3838 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3939 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
4040 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
4141 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
4242 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
