| 7 | 7 | | relating to the confidentiality of the home or residence address of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | a state or federal judge or the judge's spouse in certain government |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | records and documents. |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 25.025(b), Tax Code, is amended to read |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (b) Information in appraisal records under Section 25.02 is |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | confidential and is available only for the official use of the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | appraisal district, this state, the comptroller, and taxing units |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and political subdivisions of this state if: |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (1) the information identifies the home address of a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | named individual to whom this section applies; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (2) the individual: |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (A) chooses to restrict public access to the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | information on the form prescribed for that purpose by the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | comptroller under Section 5.07; or |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (B) is a federal or state judge [as defined by |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Section 572.002, Government Code], or the spouse of a federal or |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | state judge, beginning on the date the Office of Court |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Administration of the Texas Judicial System notifies the appraisal |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | district of the judge's qualification for the judge's office. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 2. Section 521.121(c), Transportation Code, is |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | (c) The department shall establish a procedure, on a license |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | holder's qualification for office as a federal or state judge as |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | defined by Section 13.0021, Election Code [572.002, Government |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Code], to omit the residence address of the judge and the spouse of |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | the judge on the license holder's license and to include, in lieu of |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | that address, the street address of the courthouse in which the |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | license holder or license holder's spouse serves as a federal judge |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | or state judge. |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
|---|
