| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter I, Chapter 545, Transportation Code, | |
| 11 | 11 | is amended by adding Section 545.4146 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 545.4146. TRANSPORTING DOGS IN OPEN BEDS. (a) This | |
| 13 | 13 | section applies only to a vehicle being operated or a trailer being | |
| 14 | 14 | drawn in a county with a population of more than 125,000. | |
| 15 | 15 | (b) A person may not operate an open-bed pickup truck or an | |
| 16 | 16 | open flatbed truck or draw an open flatbed trailer described by | |
| 17 | 17 | Subsection (a) at a speed greater than 30 miles per hour when a dog | |
| 18 | 18 | is occupying the bed of the truck or trailer unless the dog | |
| 19 | 19 | occupying the bed of the truck or trailer is secured in a crate, | |
| 20 | 20 | cage, or other closed container. | |
| 21 | 21 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
