55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to requiring regional education service centers to provide
88 information to school district employees regarding health and
99 retirement benefits and financial literacy.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 8, Education Code, is
1212 amended by adding Section 8.059 to read as follows:
1313 Sec. 8.059. INFORMATION REGARDING EMPLOYEE BENEFITS. Each
1414 regional education service center, in cooperation with the Teacher
1515 Retirement System of Texas, shall annually collaborate with school
1616 districts in the center's region to:
1717 (1) organize an educational workshop to provide
1818 information to district employees regarding:
1919 (A) health benefits for district employees and
2020 retirees, including:
2121 (i) benefits provided by each district; and
2222 (ii) health benefit plans administered by
2323 the Teacher Retirement System of Texas;
2424 (B) retirement benefits, including benefits
2525 provided by the Teacher Retirement System of Texas; and
2626 (C) personal financial literacy regarding health
2727 care and retirement planning; and
2828 (2) distribute the information described by
2929 Subdivision (1) to the district employees.
3030 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
