411 AN ACT
512 relating to a requirement that online admission application forms
613 for public institutions of higher education include a link to
714 certain comparative gainful employment data.
815 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
916 SECTION 1. Section 51.762, Education Code, is amended by
1017 adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows:
1118 (b-1) An electronic common admission application form
1219 adopted under this section must include a prominent link to
1320 comparative gainful employment data regarding institutions of
1421 higher education, including information described by Section
1522 7.040, on a website maintained by the board using data compiled by
1623 the board in coordination with the Texas Workforce Commission.
1724 SECTION 2. Section 51.763(b), Education Code, is amended to
1825 read as follows:
1926 (b) The form must:
2027 (1) [shall] allow each applicant to:
2128 (A) [(1)] apply electronically to one or more of
2229 the general academic teaching institutions within the university
2330 system; and
2431 (B) [(2)] indicate preferences for admission
2532 between those institutions; and
2633 (2) include a prominent link to comparative gainful
2734 employment data regarding institutions of higher education,
2835 including information described by Section 7.040, on a website
2936 maintained by the board using data compiled by the board in
3037 coordination with the Texas Workforce Commission.
3138 SECTION 3. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
3239 and the governing board of a university system shall comply with
3340 Section 51.762(b-1) or 51.763(b)(2), Education Code, as added by
3441 this Act, as applicable, as soon as practicable following the
3542 effective date of this Act but not later than January 1, 2020.
3643 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3744 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3845 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3946 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
4047 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
