9+ A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
410 AN ACT
511 relating to the use of certain license plates on classic motor
612 vehicles and travel trailers, custom vehicles, street rods, and
713 certain exhibition vehicles.
814 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
915 SECTION 1. Section 504.202, Transportation Code, is amended
1016 by adding Subsection (j) to read as follows:
1117 (j) A person entitled to license plates under this section
1218 may instead use, for a vehicle that meets the requirements of
1319 Section 504.501 or 504.502, disabled veteran license plates issued
1420 by this state that are:
1521 (1) embossed with an alphanumeric pattern;
1622 (2) of a plate design that was issued in the same year
1723 as the model year of the vehicle; and
1824 (3) approved for use by the department.
1925 SECTION 2. Section 504.501, Transportation Code, is amended
2026 by amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (b-1) to read as
2127 follows:
2228 (b) A person eligible for the license plates may instead use
2329 license plates that are:
2430 (1) embossed with an alphanumeric pattern;
2531 (2) of a plate design that was [were] issued by this
2632 state in the same year as the model year of the vehicle; and
2733 (3) [are] approved for use by the department.
2834 (b-1) The department may require the attachment of a
2935 registration insignia to a [the] license plate described by
3036 Subsection (b) in a manner that does not affect the display of
3137 information originally on the license plate.
3238 SECTION 3. Section 504.502, Transportation Code, is amended
3339 by amending Subsection (c) and adding Subsection (c-1) to read as
3440 follows:
3541 (c) A person eligible for the license plates may instead use
3642 license plates that are:
3743 (1) embossed with an alphanumeric pattern;
3844 (2) of a plate design that was issued by this state in
3945 the same year as the model year of the vehicle [and approved by the
4046 department], provided that a passenger car must bear passenger car
4147 or truck license plates and a truck must bear passenger car or truck
4248 license plates; and
4349 (3) approved for use by the department.
4450 (c-1) The department may require attachment of a
4551 registration insignia to a [the] license plate described by
4652 Subsection (c) in a manner that does not affect the display of
4753 information originally on the license plate.
4854 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
