| 10 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 11, Education Code, is |

| 12 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 11.172 to read as follows: |

| 13 | 12 | | Sec. 11.172. POSTING OF TEN COMMANDMENTS. The board of |
|---|
| 14 | 13 | | trustees of an independent school district may not prohibit the |
|---|
| 15 | 14 | | posting of a copy of the Ten Commandments in a prominent location in |
|---|
| 16 | 15 | | a district classroom. |
|---|
| 17 | 16 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020 |
|---|
| 18 | 17 | | school year. |
|---|
| 19 | 18 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 20 | 19 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 21 | 20 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 22 | 21 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 23 | 22 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
