87 relating to the posting of the Ten Commandments in public school
98 classrooms.
109 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1110 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 11, Education Code, is
1211 amended by adding Section 11.172 to read as follows:
1312 Sec. 11.172. POSTING OF TEN COMMANDMENTS. The board of
1413 trustees of an independent school district may not prohibit the
1514 posting of a copy of the Ten Commandments in a prominent location in
1615 a district classroom.
1716 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020
1817 school year.
1918 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2019 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2120 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2221 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2322 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
