| 9 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 823, Health and Safety Code, is amended |

| 11 | 13 | | by adding Section 823.004 to read as follows: |

| 12 | 14 | | Sec. 823.004. REQUIRED NOTICE OF EPIZOOTIC INFECTIOUS |
|---|
| 13 | 15 | | DISEASES. (a) In this section, "epizootic" has the meaning |
|---|
| 14 | 16 | | assigned by Section 826.002. |
|---|
| 15 | 17 | | (b) An animal shelter shall provide written, electronic, or |
|---|
| 16 | 18 | | telephonic notice to each person who adopts an animal from the |
|---|
| 17 | 19 | | shelter of any epizootic infectious disease that occurs among the |
|---|
| 18 | 20 | | animals in the shelter within the 15-day period: |
|---|
| 19 | 21 | | (1) before the date the person adopts the animal; or |
|---|
| 20 | 22 | | (2) after the date the person adopts the animal. |
|---|
| 21 | 23 | | (c) Section 823.009 does not apply to this section. |
|---|
| 22 | 24 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
