8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 411, Government Code, is |
---|
10 | 10 | | amended by adding Section 411.0094 to read as follows: |
---|
11 | 11 | | Sec. 411.0094. PILOT PROGRAM FOR CARRYING AUTOMATED |
---|
12 | 12 | | EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS IN CERTAIN DEPARTMENT VEHICLES. (a) The |
---|
13 | 13 | | department shall develop and implement a pilot program in the |
---|
14 | 14 | | department's West Texas Region and Northwest Texas Region that |
---|
15 | 15 | | requires each department vehicle used for highway patrol in those |
---|
16 | 16 | | regions to carry an automated external defibrillator. |
---|
17 | 17 | | (b) The department shall document each use of an automated |
---|
18 | 18 | | external defibrillator included in the pilot program under |
---|
19 | 19 | | Subsection (a) and the location of use, including the county in |
---|
20 | 20 | | which the defibrillator was used and the approximate address of |
---|
21 | 21 | | use. |
---|
22 | 22 | | (c) Not later than December 1, 2028, the department shall |
---|
23 | 23 | | submit a written report to the governor, the lieutenant governor, |
---|
24 | 24 | | the speaker of the house of representatives, and the standing |
---|
25 | 25 | | committees of the house of |
---|
26 | 26 | | representatives and the senate with |
---|
27 | 27 | | primary jurisdiction over the department on the results of the |
---|
28 | 28 | | pilot program, including the information documented under |
---|
29 | 29 | | Subsection (b). |
---|
30 | 30 | | (d) The commission shall adopt rules to implement this |
---|
31 | 31 | | section. |
---|
32 | 32 | | (e) This section expires September 1, 2029. |
---|
33 | 33 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
