55 AN ACT
66 relating to a pilot program for carrying automated external
77 defibrillators in certain Department of Public Safety vehicles.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 411, Government Code, is
1010 amended by adding Section 411.0094 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 411.0094. PILOT PROGRAM FOR CARRYING AUTOMATED
1212 EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS IN CERTAIN DEPARTMENT VEHICLES. (a) The
1313 department shall develop and implement a pilot program in the
1414 department's West Texas Region and Northwest Texas Region that
1515 requires each department vehicle used for highway patrol in those
1616 regions to carry an automated external defibrillator.
1717 (b) The department shall document each use of an automated
1818 external defibrillator included in the pilot program under
1919 Subsection (a) and the location of use, including the county in
2020 which the defibrillator was used and the approximate address of
2121 use.
2222 (c) Not later than December 1, 2028, the department shall
2323 submit a written report to the governor, the lieutenant governor,
2424 the speaker of the house of representatives, and the standing
2525 committees of the house of
2626 representatives and the senate with
2727 primary jurisdiction over the department on the results of the
2828 pilot program, including the information documented under
2929 Subsection (b).
3030 (d) The commission shall adopt rules to implement this
3131 section.
3232 (e) This section expires September 1, 2029.
3333 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
