11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 42.152, Education Code, is amended by |
---|
13 | 13 | | adding Subsections (c-3) and (c-4) to read as follows: |

14 | 14 | | (c-3) Notwithstanding Subsection (c), funds allocated under |
---|
15 | 15 | | this section may be used to: |
---|
16 | 16 | | (1) provide child-care services or assistance with |
---|
17 | 17 | | child-care expenses for students at risk of dropping out of school, |
---|
18 | 18 | | as described by Section 29.081(d)(5); or |
---|
19 | 19 | | (2) pay the costs associated with services provided |
---|
20 | 20 | | through a life skills program in accordance with Sections |
---|
21 | 21 | | 29.085(b)(1) and (3)-(7). |
---|
22 | 22 | | (c-4) Not later than January 1, 2020, the commissioner shall |
---|
23 | 23 | | adopt rules requiring the Public Education Information Management |
---|
24 | 24 | | System (PEIMS) to include pregnancy as a reason a student withdraws |
---|
25 | 25 | | from or otherwise no longer attends public school. |
---|
26 | 26 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
